Vaikuntha Ekadashi
Vaikuntha
Ekadashi, is celebrated in the month of Margashirsh. It is believed that the
doors of vaikuntha are open on that day. Thousands of devotees visit the temple
to to take the darshan of the Lord. A special bhog is offered, taking aarti on
that day is of special importance.
Dhanurmas
Festival
Dhanurmas Festival
is also celebrated in the month of margashirsh, it is celebrated in memory of
story that had occurred in ancient times. In olden days, Sri Andal, the
daughter of sri Peri Alwar used to worship lord srinivasa from her childhood.
She was offering archana to achieve the ultimate Lord srinivasa as her husband.
Sri Andal is considered as to be the form of Goddess Mahalaxmi.
While she was doing
Dhanurmas vrat, She composed many spiritual verses. The verses that she
composed are popularly known as ‘Tiruppavai’. On the purnima day of margashirsh
she got married to the Supreme Lord srinivasa.
In our balaji temple at charkop, we celebrate
every day of the margashirsh by worshipping Sri Andal along with balaji. Every
day one verse of ‘Tiruppavai’ is sung by the ‘Bhajan Mandli’ of our temple at
charkop. Also everyday pongal bhog is offered to the lord and the prasadam of
the bhog is then distributed among devotees. On the last day of the month i.e.
on the day of purnima, the marriage day of Sri Andal is celebrated with special
decorations and Maha Aarti is also performed on that particular day.
